God Equips Us!

Has the Holy Spirit prompted you to do something outside of your comfort zone? Are you arguing with God over this idea, reminding Him that you do not have the necessary skills to move ahead? Why?

We are not always given an opportunity to prepare ahead of time to do God’s business. There is an element of the unexpected in our walk with Christ, and we have to accept that spontaneity is sometimes necessary. Therefore, faith in God’s ability and power is a requirement if we want to grow spiritually.

“We need supernatural ability to be married to our natural ability. We can’t simply come along with our natural abilities and think we can fill the needs that are presented to us. If we only ever do what we in our own natural ability are capable of doing, how does that display God’s glory? Are you in a position that is beyond your ability? Praise God! For now, others will witness the supernatural ability of God to meet your need and accomplish His purpose.” ~ Priscilla Shire

“Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. And they were astonished at His teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.” Mark 1:21-22 (NKJV)

Without time to prepare, Jesus immediately began to teach. The Synagogue was filled with scholars of the law, scribes, and Pharisees. By our thinking, He was in over His head. BUT- He did not hesitate or exhibit anxiety and fear. The glory of God is best seen through our lives when we step forward confidently knowing we don’t have what it takes to meet the task at hand, but trusting God to fully equip us for the responsibility before us.

Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will declare justice to the Gentiles.” Matthew 12:18 (NKJV)

For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.John 3:34 (NKJV)

Maybe you have been asked to speak or teach others who are well educated yet you lack a college degree. Or, have you ever felt the prompting of the Holy Spirit to share the Good News with a complete stranger but you doubted your ability to remember Scriptures? That should not stop you! When God asks us to do something, He will equip us for the moment. The Holy Spirit gives us competence. He gives us an ability that comes supernaturally from the Father so we can handle the task we are given.

Fear is a big weapon of the enemy. Fear puts doubt in our hearts and minds causing us to focus on self. It makes us question God’s ability to work through us. We worry over possible discomfort and forget that God is all-powerful.

How many opportunities have we missed to serve the kingdom of God because fear paralyzed us from action? We should not doubt ourselves. In fact, self should never be our concern. We are to be God-focused! God is able. God will accomplish His purpose. If He offers an opportunity for service, we should thank Him for the blessing to be used.

“’And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you:  the tabernacle of meeting, the ark of the Testimony and the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furniture of the tabernacle.’Exodus 31:6

When God called Moses to be His mouthpiece (to bring the Israel nation out of Egypt) he was filled with fear. Moses was insecure about his ability to speak and many believe he had a stutter. Initially, Moses focused on himself and not on God’s ability to equip him.

Then Moses said to the LORD, ‘Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.’ The LORD said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?” Now then go, and I, even I, will be with your mouth, and teach you what you are to say.’” Exodus 4:10-12

Meditate on where the Lord is directing your steps? Do you need to remove “self” from the equation and include a greater measure of trust? Are you willing to trust that the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit will equip you to do whatever God asks? Have faith, dear ones! He is faithful!
